New National Board Certified Teachers

Congratulations to three District Six teachers recently earning national board certification as announced by The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA). Amanda Allen of Lone Oak Elementary School, Farida Alimohamed of West View Elementary and Madeline Jurek of Dorman Freshman Campus undertook this two-part processĀ that takes from oneto three years to complete. The process requires candidates to reflect on theirclassroom practices, assess their understanding of subject material and examinetheir preparation techniques. In addition to preparing a portfolio withvideotapes of classroom teaching, lesson plans, student work samples andreflective essays, teachers must complete assessment center exercises based oncontent knowledge that prove they have mastered the subjects they teach andalso possess the skills to teach them. Eighty-three percent of certified staff in District Six hold advanced degrees and have an average of 15 years of experience. Congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment.
